532 Gallery Thomas Jaeckel presents “The Barbies” artist Cal Rhodes’
> multi-paneled photography installation that was primarily shot at
> Mercedes Benz Fashion Week’s celebration of 50 years of Barbie a few
> seasons back and is, according the artist, “ a feast of the last half
> century of glamor,” with an opening reception Thursday, September 6, from 7-9.
Rhodes makes aestheticized photo based cartoons from raw runway fashion photography.
The work features the “Barbie” looks of Betsey Johnson, Rag and Bone , Nicole
> Miller, Monique Lhuilier, Badgely Mishka and 25 other top designers.
> Rhodes, after working on a collaborative project with Florence S. Lunn
> and legendary photo dealer Harry Lunn, has focused on photo based
> cartooning, noting “this may well be the first photo cartoon
> gallery show ever…and frankly, I find it thrilling.” The show is a fashion
> week installation from September 5-10. Thomas Jaeckel Gallery 532
