The series ''PAINTED BARCODES'':
Barcodes are an important part of our daily life throughout the world. They are everywhere: on tickets, on products, on ID cards. I am trying that element, made by machines, convert into a poetical form, transforming it into a contemporary metaphor of everyday life, civilization, globalization etc., using it as a painting subject. Linear barcodes usually are white and black, or monochromatical. Yet, in my paintings barcodes and their details metamorphosize to polychromatical(only a few of them stay white and black), read not by a scanner, but by painter's eyes, using no computer program, only human brains; sent not to a screen, but to canvas with brush and oil.
The primary concern for me is visual qualities of the paintings and the ideas conveying to viewers as simply as possible rather than stressing on the new technique,style, or material that are used for it.
Thus, I am trying to enrich barcodes(printed by machines), to change them into paintings,saying that it is possible to find colors in daily routine.
The series ''THE STORAGE OF THE 21st CENTURY SIGNS'':
Ancient cave paintings inspired me to start painting that series. According to some theories, cave paintings were not just merely decorations of living areas and they may have been a way of communication with others.
As one of my goals is to paint a language, for me traffic and safety symbols as well as symbols found in shopping centres somehow relates to ancient cave paintings. They also are a certain way of communication and they tell a story of the 21st century humans in their visual images.
Since 2008 my works have being represented nationally and internationally under pseudonym Painter Coded, currently I am under pseudonym along with my real name as Painter Coded (Rūta Baužytė-Jarosz).
