Julian Andres Acosta Pacheco

Julian Andres Acosta Pacheco was born in Havana, Cuba in 1961. He currently lives and works in Miami, Florida. He attended Florida Atlantic University (B.F.A) and St. Thomas University (M.S).

My recent work is an excavation of the inheritance of the past which delves into the connectedness and parallels of the present, the real and the abstract creating a visual conversation between words, symbols and shapes. It takes a critical view of positive and negative space while creating tension via rigor in form, straight lines and the right angle. I find an irresistible tension between the rectangle and the square. I aim to break down symmetry while simultaneously aiming for balance through contrast and the dynamic born of different shapes, objects and textures complementing or challenging each other. I use metal, wood and canvas as materials of choice.
