Statement

Jaren Dahlstrom has been a painter most of his life, starting his art education at age 12.  He has had several one person shows including Villa Montalvo, Saratog, CA., the Littman Gallery, University of Portland, OR, Sierra Arts NWRL in Reno, NV. and many group shows including the Oakland Museum of CA Art, San Pablo Arts Gallery, San Pablo, CA, the Palos Verde Art Center, Rancho Palos Verde, CA, Silver Mine Gallery, New Caanan, CN, Alameda Art Center, Alameda, CA, the University of Alaska, Anchorage, AK to name a few.

Jaren lives and works in the San Francisco Bay Area and has painted the series of  light on water and other surfaces since 2001.  First photographing the fleeting moment of light on the undulating surface of water and then enhancing the image in the computer.  Adding saturation, croping, distorting and manuliplating the image to create more intensity, abstraction and taking the image a step away from reality, while manitaining an often surreal quality to the finished painting.  His paintings range from a mundane outboard motor reflecting in a local marina to images of the Stravinsky Fountain int Paris or the canals of Venice.  With each image light and water merge to make a statement that is more real, than the often over looked reflection it is taken from.
