Ben Rosecrans (b. 1975, Vancouver, WA)

I am currently employed as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Doane College in Crete Nebraska.I am at present creating work that can be interpreted as a non-representational investigation into the process of mapping through sketches and my intuitive reactions to space, geometric and organic shapes and the power of a simple line to represent movement.  They take the form of small-scale drawings, or they function as large drawings, sculptures, or installations.  In addition to the elements already discussed I am also interested in the awkward relationships of color, site specificity, fake architectural elements, and physical and visual ideas of travel to create compositions or environments that can be altered in a way that become illusionistic or absurd.  I encourage the viewer to investigate space and through this investigation begin to notice elements that at first may have seemed logical or consistent with mapping and spatial concepts but reveal themselves to be nonsensical or off in a way that makes the viewer reinvestigate what they are looking at.

Education:  M.F.A. - Painting, University of Wisconsin - Madison, 2010. B.F.A. - Painting, Northern Illinois University, 2006. Associate of Science - 2D/3D Design/Animation,  Full Sail University, 1997.
